If you have to drive any vehicle in India, it is essential to have a driving license. Driving without a license can land you in jail. Moreover, the driving license issued by the government also serves as proof of identity, which can be submitted for various purposes.

How to apply for a learner’s license online?
1. Filling in the details
To apply for the learner’s license, you must visit the Sarathi website and click on the “Apply Online” option. Then, you are shown various options on the drop-down menu and must pick the “New Learner’s License” option.
Once you click on it, you are taken to a new page, where you will be shown the five stages of the application. You must then click on continue.
You will be required to list the parameters to which you belong on the following page. First, select the “applicant does not have driving/learner licence” option from the drop-down menu, then press the “submit” button.
After that, you must complete the form by entering your personal information. You will be given the application number once you complete and submit this form online.
2. Submitting the documents
Here are the documents which you have to submit while applying for the learner’s license:
- Medical certificate (form 1-A)
- Physical fitness declaration (form 1)

You can submit any one of the documents as proof of your address
- Ration card
- Passport
- Voter’s ID
- Aadhaar card
- Life insurance policy
Age Proof
You can submit any one of the documents as proof of your age
- Birth certificate

3. Uploading photo and signature
At this stage, you must upload your photo and signature in the application by visiting the website’s ‘Upload Photo and Signature’ section. In addition, you must provide your application number and the name of the concerned Road Transport Authority.
4. Booking the test slot
You now need to reserve a time window for the driving test. You must first provide your application number and birthdate. A verification number will be sent to you after you have entered this information. You must click submit after entering the “Verification Code” to begin the test slot booking process.
5. Payment
You must pay the application fees at this stage by clicking on the ‘application fee’ under the e-payment menu.
