Women are breaking down barriers, breaking into stereotypical strongholds, and carving out spaces for themselves in every nook and cranny. And slowly but surely bringing about gender equality in the world. They are becoming trailblazers and inspirations for younger generations, giving them hope that they can do everything they set their minds to. One such inspirational woman is Smt. Mangalamma. An ordinary woman of Chikkaballapur District, Gauribidanur Taluk, with an extraordinary vision.
Our Decisions make us who we are
Mangalamma’s early life involved weaving sarees for a living. However, agriculture was something she was always drawn towards. She tried to stick with the initial business in the beginning, but the constant unavailability of workers made her make a choice. A choice to either stick to the same business and wait in the hope of success or follow something she was more passionate about.
And yes! she chose passion and learning over looking back. She decided to be the one to break the generational curses of years and set a good lifestyle for herself and her future generations.
Her Solutions to the Challenges on her way
The former weaver had quite an idea of farming. She owned an acre of land where she used to farm however, she was ignorant of the latest implementation of techniques in agricultural lands. She did not know how to make more profits out of the crops on a single piece of land. She started looking for ways that could solve her issue, and that is when she discovered an ad for the ffreedom app while scrolling through youtube. She dig deeper into the application and ended up downloading it.
In the app, she selected the forest farming and multi-crop course and got started with her journey. She built her acquaintance in all the techniques, benefits, challenges, documents, and much more. Later, she put everything she had learned from the app into practice. Starting from forest farming using mahogany and sandalwood to multiple crop agricultures, she did not stop.
The number of sandalwood trees she owns is around 300, with drumsticks and lemons being 40 in number along with a few coconut trees. According to a few sources she also owns 80 chickens along with 10 sheep.
Mangalamma: Empowering the Common Man
We have always heard, a piece of paper does not decide your future but in some ways or others, we tend to forget the saying. We run behind one degree, then another struggling within to find out what is, that gives us joy and motivation. Magalamma found her motivation in agriculture, which led her to build a business plan that would bring her an expected revenue of 1 crore or more depending on the increasing market value.
The role model inspired more and more people to get started with their own businesses and earn a better living. She taught us that inspiration exists everywhere, however, it must find you working!
