Some people wait for times to change and others change their times because they cannot afford to wait. Such is the story of Karanveer Singh, who was brought up in Jharkhand in a middle-class, working family. Since childhood, he faced many financial issues due to the deteriorating health of his father as a result of certain pancreatic issues. By the time he was in 10th standard, due to regular medical and healthcare expenses, the economic condition of his family had dwindled and most of their savings were on the brink of exhaustion.
His elder brother, who was not able to complete his own education due to these issues, ensure that Karan does not face the same fate, which is why he loaned money to support his education.
But this was soon going to change as Karanveer was determined to handle the issues of his family right after completing his schooling.
The start
Karanveer knew he had to do something in order to stabilize the economic condition of his family, which is why after a lot of thinking he proposed to send him to Delhi for completing his graduation, as from there he easily would be able to supply and transport spare parts for their two-wheeler shop. His family agreed and he was able to get admission to Khalsa College with a minimum fee. Soon, his hard work and planning paid off as his family’s two-wheeler business was able to boom and the financial condition stabilized. After attaining this benchmark, Karanveer had to think about his career options as well, that is when his friend suggested him to attain a management degree from London, as it would be a one-year course and he would save a lot of time. Little did he know that this decision would soon become the turning point of his life, toward something bigger.
Journey of his business
When Karan reached London, he didn’t have enough money to get by which led him to search for a job. Upon reaching London he stayed in a Gurudwara in his initial days, there he came to know about an opening for the position of cleaner and sweeper in a nearby restaurant, which he had no problem taking up, according to him, work is work and should be treated as such. His work in the hotel industry taught him a lot and he gained experience in the management and input that one needs to prosper in this field. This is why when he came back to Bangalore, India, and faced difficulty in finding good quality North-Indian food on a budget, he decided to open his own cloud restaurant to bridge the need for others as well.
Current scenario and future plans
After returning to India in 2014, he started his cloud kitchen in 2017 with only three employees, today he has 12 restaurant outlets in Bangalore under the name- “Sardarji Londonwaley”. The journey was not easy but the hard work was definitely worth it, as today his annual turnover is 24 crore rupees and he has more than 150 employees working. His vision is to first establish his chain in the southern region of India due to the scarcity of authentic north Indian restaurants before expanding his business to a pan-India level.
At the age of 31 Karanveer has managed to achieve what many only dreams of, there is truly so much to learn from his story. This proves that resilience and hard work make everything possible and nothing is unattainable if you are ready to give your best for it.,
